Fiddle / guitar accompaniment / drawing & painting / knitting techniques

Fiddle Frenzy is now in its 9th year, and comprises workshops, cultural trips, concerts, dances and a festival club.  It runs this year from Sunday 5 to Sunday 12 August.

Workshops on offer are:

  • fiddle
  • guitar accompaniment
  • drawing & painting
  • knitting techniques

All workshops run all week, with one session in the morning and another in the afternoon.  Or choose a cultural trip to a different area of Shetland in the afternoon, then finish off the day with a concert in the evening, and a tune at the Festival Club.

You can do one subject all week or mix it up with a bit of everything - fiddle one day, knitting in the afternoon, drawing & painting another day.  The music classes are all taught by ear, with one guitar class of mixed abilities, and four fiddle groups - slow learning by ear, slow/medium, medium/fast and fast.

We are based in Lerwick most of the week, except for Tuesday when we head west to Walls for the day and Friday when we go to Burravoe on the island of Yell.

To register, you need to pay a non-refundable deposit of £25 (£12.50 for under 18s only).  You can book for the full week or for part of the week - prices depend on the number of days or workshops you are attending (minimum charge £25 / £12.50).

The cost for the week is £400 (£200 for under 18s).  This covers the cost of workshops, trips and concerts, and your meals & transport when we are in Walls & Burravoe.  It doesn't include accommodation or travel to Shetland.  Prices for individual days / part weeks are available on application.

Headlining concerts this year are Blazin' Fiddles, The Harris Playfair Big Band Project, The Jenna Reid Band, Ross Couper & Tom Oakes, and more, with support from some of Shetland's best musicians.
